uella (Hauck) Haarberg, age 81 of Mission Hill, SD passed away Wednesday morning, June 6, 2007 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Vangen Lutheran Church, Mission Hill, SD with Rev. Lance Lindgren officiating. Burial will be in the Vangen Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5 until 9 PM on Friday, June 8, 2007 with the family present starting at 6 PM at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD with a Prayer service starting at 7 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Michael Hauck, Daniel Hauck, Terry Hauck, Levi Hertz, Jake Haarberg, and Jeff Vaala. A honorary pallbearer will be Kyle Bunkers.
Luella (Hauck) Haarberg was born December 2, 1925 in rural Menno, SD to August and Magdalenna (Koerner) Hauck. She was baptized February 21, 1926 and confirmed June 23, 1940 as a member of Saren Reformed Church. She grew up to adulthood on the family farm. Her mother passed away January 24, 1946 leaving several small children needing care.
Luella moved to Yankton in 1948 to manage the ladies dress shop at Montgomery Wards and later managed Ravens Clothing Shop in Yankton for several years. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Haarberg on October 14, 1951 at the Salem Reformed Church in Menno. Two sons and a daughter were born to this union. Luella joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1965 and worked as a postal clerk in the Mission Hill and Sioux Falls Post Offices. She and Lloyd retired from the Postal Service on June 30, 1988. Luella and Lloyd traveled extensively after their retirement visiting all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and each of the continents. She loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises and trips to Branson, Missouri.
She was diagnosed with P.S.P (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) at the Mayo Clinic in August of 2004. She remained at her home until entering the Avera Yankton Care Center in January of 2007.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; sons, Kevin (Lorie) Haarberg of Woodland, CA and Kim (Laurie) Haarberg and their children, Jake and Megan, all of Littleton, CO; daughter, Kendra (Brian) Bunkers and their children, Kyle and Katie, all of Columbus, Nebraska; brothers: Alfred (Arlena) Hauck of Menno, SD, Milo (Marilee) Hauck of Menno, SD, Larry (Marilyn) Hauck of Cosseta, GA, and Verlyn (Sharon) Hauck of Olivet, SD; sisters: Verletta Kaufman of Golita, CA, Elanora Quast of Menno, SD, Jo Ann (Don) Frasch of Mission Hill, SD; sisters in law, Florence Hauck of Menno, SD and Lois Vaala of Minneapolis, MN, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Raymond and Clarence, a sister, Viola, and brothers in law, Garrett Kaufman, Melfred Maas, Randy Quast, and Ray Vaala.
