Obituary, Cambell, Plumly, Milburn Funeral Home: Virginia B. Hunkler - Virginia B. Hunkler, 97, passed away at home November 12, 2011. She was born at home near Barnesville on October 15, 1914, the oldest of eight children to the late Ernest David and Cora McBurney Bailey. She was graduated Valedictorian of the BHS Class of 1931 at age 16. She was a parishoner of the Assumption Catholic Church. She belonged to the bridge club that started in 1928, and continuted with most of the original members until 1998. She was a charter member of the Jr. Mother's Club, she and her husband, Dutch, operated Hunklers' Overnight Campground from 1964 to 1971, she became Barnesville's first Welcome Wagon lady in the 1960s, organized the first meeting of the Belmont County Genealogy group in 1976, and was a founding member of the Barnesville St. Vincent De Paul in 1981. She was a member of the Barnesville Historical Society, the Catholic Women's Club, the Ladies Cinch Club, Lilac Twig, Friends of the Library, and a Meals on Wheels volunteer.In 1999, she was honored as citizen of the year by the Barnesville Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as being named "Queen Mum" of the 2008 Barnesville Bicentennial celebration. She was a voracious reader, traveling, reading, sewing, knitting and crocheting, cross word puzzles, playing bridge, and gardening. She hosted many family reunions and entertained a nearly constant stream of visitors during her life.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mansel ?Dutch? Hunkler in 1983; son Thomas in 2000; two great-grandsons, RJ Montano and Colby Hannahs; sisters Vivian ?Punkin? (Willard) Betts, Mary Elizabeth ?Betty? (William) Bennett; Dorothy ?Toni? (Shirley) Moore; Marjory ?Marge? (Wayne) Walker; and brother Robert ?Bob? (Helen Grooms) Bailey.She is survived by children Ronald (Donnis) Hunkler of Queen Creek, AR, Elizabeth ?Betty Kay? (Paul) Modie of Parkersburg, WV, John (Irene) Hunkler of Flagstaff, AR, William (Alice) Hunkler and Dennis (Beth) Hunkler of Barnesville, Terrence (Kim) Hunkler of Rio Rancho, NM, Samuel (Kelly) Hunkler of Beals, ME, and Patrick (Jean) Hunkler of Pataskala, OH; 27 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brothers George ?Pete? (Winnie) Bailey of Parkersburg, WV and Ernest ?Rube? (Suzanne) of Apple Valley, OH; brother-in-law Wayne Walker of Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends.Virginia donated her body to the West Virginia University Human Registry. Memorial Contributions can be made to Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville Library, or Assumption Catholic Church.Visitation will be Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 11 am at the Assumption Catholic Church, 306 West Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio. An open house will be held Wednesday at the Grange Hall on Shamrock Drive beginning at 2 pm.
