Another veteran has died. David L. Summerville 69, of Cole-Coffman Road Marietta, OH, died at 7:35 A.M. at his home after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Marietta, OH, on Friday September 26, 1941 to the late Louis D. and Ella Marie Handschumacher Summerville.
Dave graduated from Marietta High School class of 1960, served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany. Returning to Marietta he went to work for Dupont as an electrian and retired in 1999 after almost 34 years of service.
He was a member of American Union #1 F.& A.M., where he served as Master in 1998, a member of the following organizations; American Union Chapter #1 R.A.M., Marietta Council #78 R.& S.M., Marietta Commandery #50 K.T., Washington County Scottish Rite Club, Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine Center Columbus, OH, Marietta Shrine Club, and Royal Order of Jesters Parkersburg Court #156, Marietta Boat Club where he served as purser for many years, American Legion Post #64, B.P.O. Elks #477, Marietta Moose Lodge #1823.
David married Judith E. Hoffman on February 2, 1962 and they celebrated 49 years together in February. He has a son Brett Summerville (Amy Sellers) and his family Cameron Summerville of Marietta, OH, daughter Belinda Summerville (Dennis Ray) and her family Caitlin, Casey, and Erin Lupardus of Edmond, OK, and the grandson of his deceased son Brian W. Summerville, Brian Wayne Summerville III, and one sister Marilyn Menthe (William) of Harrison, OH.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father Hudson W. Stewart, and son Brian. The family would like to thank Dr. Kelli Cawley and Hospice for there care for Dave.
Funeral services will be held Sunday 2:00 PM at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel 1021 Pike Street, Marietta with full military rites. Visitation will be Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
