BRIGGS Dana Lawrence Briggs, 60, of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born June 9, 1945 in Woodsfield to Mamie Sulsberger Briggs and the late C. Everett Briggs. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Engineering in June of 1969, at which time he also received a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He received the highest grade in the state of Ohio on the professional engineer's exam. He was a registered professional engineer in Ohio and West Virginia. He was a senior engineer at Shell Chemical in Belpre for 32 years. He was also a consulting engineer for many years. Dana was instrumental in the rebuilding of the Shell Chemical plant after the 1994 explosion. In 2003, Dana established Briggs Engineering, LLC, along with his son, Ryan, also a civil engineer. He was an avid fan of Ohio State athletics, especially Buckeye football. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing. He married Carole Bernardo in August, 1969, at St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus. Along with his wife, Dana is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Mary Claire Briggs of Columbus; and by his daughter, Dr. Stephanie Briggs of Dublin. Along with his mother, Dana is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Carol Briggs and Chuck and Shelva Briggs, all of Woodsfield. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Joe Decker of Beallsville. Along with his mother-in-law, Ida Bernardo of Columbus, he is survived by sister-in-law, Barbara Bernardo of Powell and brother-in-law, Steven Bernardo of Pompano Beach, FL. Dana is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Dana was a man of integrity and courage. He had a tenacious desire to survive, and fought the cancer with grace and dignity. Dana chose to share with others by being an organ donor. Memorial services will be held at the Marietta Chapel of CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME, 408 Front St., on Sunday at 1 p.m. The family will greet friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, P.O.
