FORD, Patricia Jane, 70, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Patricia was born October 29, 1940, in Barnesville, Ohio, to the late Monford Lucas and Fera Price Lucas, who still resides in Barnesville.
Patricia was a woman who lived by her faith in God. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and had been involved in mission trips to Costa Rica and Ghana, West Africa. She supported many church works during her life; such as, The Florida School of Preaching and individual preacher support in Ghana. She was also instrumental in helping to establish the local Church of Christ in Cape Coral, Florida.
Patricia began her career as a Candy Striper at Barnesville Hospital. She soon knew that she enjoyed helping others, which led her to the decision to study nursing. Patricia graduated from Wayne State University Nurse Anesthesia Program (WSU NAP), which was the first in the country to offer a Baccalaureate Degree in Anesthesia.
Patricia was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ronald T. (Abe) Ford; daughter, Renee (Ted) Wheeler; son, Patrick (Sandy) Ford; mother, Fera Price Lucas Dawson; brothers, Gary (Joyce) Lucas and Randy (Pat) Lucas; grand children, Trevor (Crystal) Wheeler, Trisha and Troy Wheeler, and Matthew Ford; nieces, Kristi, Julie, Cali, Aubrey and nephew, Colin; as well as many grandnephews and grandnieces.
Friends will be received Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 11-1 p.m. at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, 702 East Main Street, Barnesville, OH, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville, Ohio.
The family is requesting donations to be sent to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
