Emma Gessele
TURTLE LAKE - Emma A. Gessele, 87, Turtle Lake, died April 28, 2007, at Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. The Rev. Timothy Solberg will be officiating. Interment will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.
Emma was born March 25, 1920, at Underwood, the daughter to John and Mary (Grosz) Ruck. She attended rural school near Turtle Lake. Emma married John "Johnny" Gessele Oct. 26, 1941, at Turtle Lake. The couple lived and farmed west of Turtle Lake for many years and moved into the community of Turtle Lake, in 1972. Emma enjoyed quilting and cross-stitching, and was active with the Trinity Lutheran W.E.L.C.A. and the Turtle Lake Homemakers Club. Emma and Johnny enjoyed participating in "Birthday Club" activities and bowling leagues. Emma became a resident of the Community Memorial Hospital swing-bed in 2003. Johnny, her husband of 61 years, passed away in August 2003. Emma enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Harriett Gessele, Turtle Lake; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Hoverson, Fargo; four grandchildren, Dave Hoverson, Fargo, Heather Blotske, Devils Lake, Kate Hoverson, Fargo, and Erin Paulson, Bismarck; one great-grandchild, Tyler David Hoverson, Fargo; and one sister, Elsie Stenson, Marshall, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Elizabeth Schauer and Violet Stenson.
