Born Mary Boepple in Alfred, N.D. in 1917, she moved to Lodi and Married August Bender in 1943. The couple moved to Midway City in 1969 and returned to Lodi in 1973. Mrs. Bender was a salesperson for 30 years, enjoyed crafting including candlemaking and latchhook, raised houseplants and was a member of Discovery Hills Evangelical Church. She was a former member of First Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church in Lodi. She was Preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by three children: son Barney L. Bender, Stockton; daughter Arlene K. Hillman, Orange; daughter Barbara E. Thompson, Cameron Park; five sisters: Marge Adams, Sheboygan, Wisc; Martha Beglau, Jamestown, N.D.; Hilda Genzel, Tacoma, Wash, and Ruth Fauth and Marian Isaak both of Lodi, one sister, Esther Boepple; and two brothers, John and Ben Boepple, also preceded her in death. Chapel services will be held Thursday at noon at Cherokee Memorial Park chapel with the Rev. Gary Hunter of Discovery Hills Evangelical Church officiating, Committal will be at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Lodi Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
