Pauline Schill
STEELE - Pauline Schill, 98, Steele, died April 5, 2007, at Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at United Methodist Church, Steele, with the Rev. Perry Schnabel officiating.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
Pauline Martel was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Hosmer, S.D., the daughter of Fred and Justina (Bender) Martel. She was raised on a farm near Lehr. Pauline married Gottholt Schill on July 13, 1926, in Napoleon. To this union, six children were born. Following their marriage, they lived in Lehr until 1951, when they moved to Pollock, S.D., and then to Newell, S.D.
Pauline moved to Deadwood, S.D., after Gottholt's death, where she worked as a custodian at the Deadwood Elementary School. She also worked at the 76 Motel. Later, she worked for the city of Deadwood as a meter maid.
After retiring, Pauline moved to Lead, S.D., and lived at Lead Retirement Apartments. In the late 1990s she moved to Denver to live with her daughter, Joan. Pauline moved to Steele in 2002, and entered Golden Manor Nursing Home on Jan. 10, 2003.
She is survived by four daughters, Vonita Doering, Lead, Lucille (Robert) Stolz, Steele, Sherlet Donnelly, Yukon, Pa., and Brenda (Ronald) Boyd, Denver; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gottholt; her daughter, Joan Worsham; her son, Llewellyn Schill; her son-in-law, George Doering; her sister, Elma Meidinger; and her brother, Edwin Martel.
