Joyce was born Feb. 19, 1925, on a farm southeast of Menno to Fred and Bertha (Sammon) Wedmore. She attended Schaeffer Elementary School and Utica High School and worked on the family farm. She married Elton R. Kirschenman Sept. 3, 1949, in Lu-verne, Minn. She farmed with her husband and children southeast of Menno until 1970 when they moved to Riverside Acres west of Yankton. There she provided child care services for several years until she began working at the South Dakota Human Services Center where she worked 18 years until she retired.
Joyce's life passion was caring for her family - cooking, baking, gardening and sewing. She also had a green thumb that nurtured many houseplants through the years. Her considerable needlework skills are evidenced in the many beautiful pieces she gifted through the years. Joyce also played a big role in helping raise her grandchildren. She very much enjoyed traveling and visiting her children.
Joyce is survived by her children: Robert (Angie) Kirschenman and Da-ryl (Judy) Kirschenman of Yankton, Joleen Kirschenman of Chicago, 111., and Curtis (Cindy) Kirschenman of Albuquerque, N.M., 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Fern Wedmore of Yankton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters: Ruth Wedmore, Jean Schulte and Phyllis Voracek, one granddaughter Alicia and one great-grandson Aiden.
