Delbert M. Kirschenman, 78, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 4, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.
Mr. Kirschenman was born January 4, 1928 in Menno, South Dakota to Emanuel and Emma (Rempfer) Kirschenman. He married Violet Stearns, June 10, 1949, in Luverne, Minnesota. Together they farmed in Menno before moving to Iowa in 1955. He was a switchman for the Milwaukee Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1985. His membership included the United Transportation Union Local #258, of which he was a 50 year member. He enjoyed going to church, traveling, yard work, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Violet; daughters, Ardis Jennett of Hermitage, Tennessee, Nola Lopez, Donna (Steve) Goyette and Rita (Bruce) Clifton, all of Davenport, and Dee Ann (Gene) Dibbern of Indianapolis, Indiana; sons, Ken Kirschenman of Tyler, Texas, Les (Tammie) Kirschenman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Larry Kirschenman of Davenport, and Darwin (Kim) Kirschenman of Abingdon, Virginia; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; sisters, Myrna Pokorney of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Malena (Bob) Diede of Yankton, South Dakota; brothers, Lloyd Kirschenman of Everett, Washington, LaVern (Margaret) Kirschenman and Donald (Lois) Kirschenman, all of Menno, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, sisters, Orina Smith, Dora Mae Kirschenman; brothers, Wilmer, Elton, and Clarence Kirschenman; and three great-grandchildren.
