Lydia Martha Bender, age 84, of Lodi, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2012. She was born near Danzig, North Dakota on May 24, 1928, to John and Lydia (Haupt) Denning. Mrs. Bender was raised on a family farm near Danzig, North Dakota. She graduated from Ashley high school in Ashley, North Dakota. In 1948 she married Ervin Zimmerman in Ashley, North Dakota. They moved to Lodi in 1967. Mr. Zimmerman preceded her in death. In 1986, she married Edwin Bender. Lydia worked as an inventory clerk for Lodi Community Hospital for 16 years. She enjoyed quilting, dancing, reading, collecting and making dolls. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Bender is survived by her children: sons, Lynne (Susan) Zimmerman, of Stockton and Harley Zimmerman; daughter LaVonne Zimmerman, grandchildren: Donika Bonfadini, Charesa Harper, and Emily Ramirez. Brothers: Norman Denning, Glenn Denning, and Carl Denning; sisters: Mable Zimmerman, Gloria Miller, and Geraldine Berkholz. Stepsons: Eric (Tami) Bender, Kevin (Carolyn) Bender; stepdaughter in-law, Mona Bender; step grandchildren: Chacha, Georgie, Mitch, Craig, Jacob, Mark, and Christopher. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ervin Zimmerman; second husband Edwin Bender; brothers: Gerhardt Denning, Allis Denning and Enoch Denning; and sister Lillie Denning. Stepson George Bender. Friends are invited to visit on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A service will be held on Thursday, December 20, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Committal will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
