Henry D. Taylor - Constableville Henry D. Taylor, 89, who lived on James St., a native and lifelong resident of Constableville, died very unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Taylor was born on December 16, 1903, a son of Fellus Eli and Anna Newhart Taylor. He attended high school in Constableville. For several years he and his brother, Charles operated a trucking business in the Constableville area. In addition to hauling cattle feed to area farms, they operated a milk route. After World War II, Mr. Taylor was empkoyed as the highway superintendent for the Town of West Turin. He later became the foreman for the State Highway Department in Southern Lewis County and was responsibkle for the maintenance of state highways between West Leydent and Lyons Falls. He retired in 1968.
He married Helen Schwenk on September 17, 1927, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Constableville. Mr. Taylor had a lifelong interest in baseball and for many years he played on the "Constableville Bears", a baseball town team. In the 1940's and 1950's, he managed the town team. This past spring, the Constableville Little League Field was dedicated to him and Mr. Taylor was privileged to pitch the first ball in the new ball park. Mr. Taylor had also been an active bowler and was one of the founders of the Constableville Bowling Alley in 1938. A member of St. Paul's Episcapol Church, he was a lifelong vestryman of the church. He was a member of Constableville Fire Company and had served as clerk of the Village of Constableville. Mr. Taylor was also a member of Turin Masonic Lodge. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of Constableville Fish and Game Club and had servred as secretary of the club.
Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Joan Taylor of Liverpool; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David H. and Elaine Taylor, of Port Leyden, and Dan E. Taylor, of Floyd; three grandchildren, Jan, Brittney and Ashley; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Blance, and two brothers, Harold and Charles.
Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Boonville. Internment will be nade in Rural Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
