Nick A. Renner, 85, Mandan, died Feb. 18, 2012, at Medcenter One St. Vincent Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt as celebrant. Burial will be at the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a parish rosary/vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Nick was born on Nov. 2, 1926, to Ambrose and Bertha (Schmidt) Renner in Mandan. He was raised in Mandan and educated at the Highland School and St. Anthony Catholic School. He married Mary Hartze on Dec. 27, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck. Nick’s passion in life was farming and ranching and he and Mary lived and raised their children on their farm Southwest of Mandan, until they retired and moved to Bismarck.
Nick also enjoyed playing pinochle with his family and friends, doing crossword puzzles, but most of all spending time with his family. Nick enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they all enjoyed Grandpa Nick.
Nick will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Mary. They shared 59 wonderful years together. He is also survived by his daughters, Josephine (Kelly) Vetter, Bismarck, and Annette (Tim) Mjoen, Jacksonville, Fla.; his sons, Robert James (Sharon), Bismarck, James (Kathy) and Michael, all of Mandan; his sisters, Bridget, Pauline, Mary, Viola and Clementine; his brothers, Lawrence, Edward and Anton; his grandchildren, Corey, Cayla, Crystal, Amanda and Angela Renner, Sarah Brewster, Sheila Joyce, Patrick Mjoen, Jessica Litto, and Jennifer and Jonathan Vetter; his great-grandchildren, Charlette, Weston, Phoenix and Alexis.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph; his sisters, Ida, Rose, Margaret and Eva; and his brothers, Albert and Matt.
