Rev. Eugene J. Haspert, Belfield, died early Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dickinson.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Belfield, with the Most Rev. Hilary B. Hacker officiating, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton, with Abbot Lawrence L. Wager, O.S.B. officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Richardton.
He was born Sept. 20, 1921, to John and Elizabeth (Renner) Haspert in Richardton. He was raised there.
After graduating from Assumption Abbey College, he attended St. Paul, Minn., graduating from there in May, 1947.
He was ordained May 27, 1947, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, and was appointed assistant at Hague, ND. He taught there for three years. He was then appointed pastor of St. James Catholic Church, Powers Lake, ND. From there he moved to New Salem for three years and the Raleigh for 11 years. He started St. Gertrude's High School in Raleigh. He moved to St. Bernard's in 1967 and has been resident priest there.
Friends may call at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, Wednesday after 11:30 a.m. He will be taken to St. Bernard's Thursday afternoon for rosary there at 7:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus. There will be viewing at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's until the time of the funeral. He was a member of the K of C and Elks Club and the present Dean of Dickinson Deanery. Organist for the St. Bernard's funeral is Mrs. Dorman Fugere, and special music will be provided by the church choir.
Pallbearers and the honorary group are K of C members. Organist for the St. Mary's funeral is Sylvia Feller. Special music will be provided by the church choir and the K of C members will be the pallbearers.
He is survived by three brothers and six sisters, John of Arcadia, Calif.; Arnold of Veradale, Wash.; Edward of Spokane, Wash.; Hilaria (Mrs. James) Hinds and Martha (Mrs. George) Blatner, both of Portland, Ore.; Sister Angelo, Order of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn.; Bertha, Bernadette and Bernice Haspert, all of San Francisco.
