Philomena Rose (Phyllis) Schneider
Prosser Funeral Home
PROSSER - Philomena Rose (Phyllis) Schneider joined our Heavenly Father on December 14, 2005 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born December 08, 1922 in St. Anthony, ND; the second of seven children, born to Roy and Mathilda Hoffman Morrell. She moved with her family to Yakima in October 1937 where she later met her husband, George Schneider, Sr. They were married on January 28, 1941. They had twelve children. They resided in Yakima prior to moving to Richland in 1945. The family then moved to Prosser in 1956.
Phyllis enjoyed her life, always had a good story to tell, and never seemed to take matters more seriously than needed. She loved her children and did her eyes light up when she spoke to or about her grandchildren or great-grandchildren!
She loved to bake and was excellent at what she loved. She was always baking cookies, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and other treats for school classrooms, family, and friends. She loved to share much to our delight.
After her husband's death in 1992, she became a regular vendor at the Prosser Farmers Market and many Christmas bazaars selling her many arts & crafts. Her idea of relaxing was to keep her hands busy and she did that very well.
She loved playing bingo and cards at the senior center. And if she wasn't playing bingo she would be calling bingo. When she went to the casinos with her friends or family, she always seemed to set off the bells on the slot machines.
She was a woman of great faith who quietly set about living her faith by example. She was very active in her church through the Altar Society and her Bible study group.
She also was a member of the Prosser Eagles Auxiliary and the VFW.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her only sister, Frances Ibach, her five brothers, Joseph, Jacob, George, Ralph and Ambrose (Buzz), great-grandson, Andrew Early, and son-in-law, Glen Anderson.
She is survived by her 12 children, Jane (Gerry) Hagarty of Prosser, Tillie (Dave) Smith of Prosser, Pat (Bill) Neuner of Roseburg, OR, Jerry (Connie) Schneider of Leavenworth, George (Patricia) Schneider of Prosser, Marie Schneider of Prosser and Japan, David (Debbie) Schneider of Hope, BC, Susie (Paul) Christopher of Prosser, Dan (Verlaine) Schneider of Prosser, Sheila (Doug) Andrews of Anacortes, Cindy (Mark) Little of Prosser, Barb (Mike) Klages of Prosser, 31 Grandchildren and 24 Great-Grandchildren.
Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to the Andrew Early Guild of Children's Hospital for uncompensated care, Lower Valley Hospice or the charity of your choice.
Vigil services will be held on Monday, December 19, at 5:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 20th at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial and concluding services will follow in the Prosser Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Prosser Funeral Home.
