Joseph A. Leingang, 76, Bismarck, died Oct. 4, 2012, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Joseph was born on May 4, 1936, to Alex and Julia (Magilke) Leingang in Sioux County. He was raised and educated in Sioux County. He married Geraldine Stoltz on Oct. 25, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Solen.
Joe started working on various ranches in Sioux County at a young age. He then took over the family farm and ranch near Solen for many years. During his younger years he especially enjoyed horseback riding, dancing and playing cards. Following that he lived in many states including; Colorado, Minnesota and Arizona, always near family. During that time he worked various other occupations including carpentry, electrician, driving truck and the oil fields. Wherever Joe went he easily made new acquaintances and friends.
In his recent years he returned to Mandan to be closer to his daughters and other family. He resided at Liberty Heights and later the Baptist Home. He was a Denver Broncos fan and liked talking about football with his sons in Colorado and his many friends at the Baptist Home.
Joseph will be deeply missed by his daughters, Joette (D.J.) Brown and Julie Schmit, both of Bismarck; his sons, Joe D. (Candace) and Jason, both of Windsor, Colo., and Harlan (Lori), Ft. Collins, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, Dustin, Christopher, Weston, Brandon, Lauren, Layne, Shane, Colson, Brooke, Autumn, Dylan, Nate and Zoey; three great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Devin and Weslee; his brothers, Ray (Janice) and Marvin, both of Mandan; his sisters, Mathilda (Francis) Fischer, Bismarck, Alice (Bill) Geiger, Solen, Albina (John) Dworshak, Apache Junction, Ariz., Kathy (Garlan) Johnson, Bismarck, Rosie (Rick) Nelson, Tucson, Ariz., and Radene (Darrold) Berger, Glen Ullin.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Julia; and grandson Jaxson Schmit.
