SPARKMAN, Maurice Knox
Maurice Knox Sparkman, age 91, died in Pflugerville on December 18, 2015.
Born April 10, 1924, in Oakville, Texas, Maurice grew up in San Marcos. In 1942, he married his first love, Magdalene Nixon, shortly after enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They soon moved to Lubbock where Maurice became a glider pilot instructor for the remainder of WWII. Over the next 20 years in the military, they lived all over the United States and Germany as Maurice rose to the rank of Major.
After retiring from the Army, the couple and their daughter settled in Austin. For the remainder of their 40 year marriage, Maurice worked as a bookkeeper for Yarings, Tracor, and the Astronomy Department at the University of Texas. Maurice met and married the love of his life, Lynne. After her retirement they relocated to Fentress and were active in the community. Maurice always loved to build, fix, and tinker with things.
Survivors include his daughter, Marlene Sparkman of Pflugerville, and several nieces and nephews. He was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him. The family is grateful for the dedicated and loving care given to Maurice by the staff of Serenity Senior Living and Guiding Hospice, especially that provided by Courtney and Lucky.
A memorial service to celebrate Maurice's life will be held at a later date at the Methodist Church in Fentress, Texas.
