WILLIAM KENNETH PENROD (1927-2008) William (Billy) Penrod arrived in this world on February 17, 1927. His parents, Boyce Penrod and Allie Mae Lewis Penrod, his older brother Boyce Junior, and his sister Charlotte were living in Gonzales, Texas, where Billy's grandfather, William Kenneth Penrod, was the minister of the First Baptist Church; his younger brother, Lewis Sheldon Penrod, soon joined the family. Billy loved life in Gonzales. Alongside his friends, he quite literally ran all day, traversing the town and the Guadalupe River that runs through it, and developing the athletic stamina that led to his outstanding high school sports career and his brief venture on the collegiate playing fields before an irreparable knee injury sidelined him early in his freshman year. Before college, Billy joined the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper; World War II ended as he completed his training. He graduated from Texas A&M and married his high school classmate and University of Texas student Joyce Pape, whose love he had first won in the senior class play when they played opposite each other in the romantic lead roles. Joyce and Billy were married 57 years until her death in 2006 and were the parents of two daughters. After a few years as a math teacher and coach, Mr. Penrod worked with the development of computer systems for many years. After a lengthy illness, William Penrod departed this world on June 21, with confidence that he and Joyce would soon be united. Billy was never without an anecdote or an opinion, and his easy charm and intelligence assured his happiness in life. He will be sorely missed by his daughters, Adrienne Unger and Leslie Dunbar, their husbands, Tim Unger and David Dunbar, his six grandchildren, Laurence, Lesley, Andrew, Alexander, and Lynden Unger, and Arthur Dunbar, and his brother Lewis and his family. The family requests that any gifts in memory of Mr. Penrod be made to the Texas A&M scholarship fund.
