Schafer, age 80, of Canton, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 18, 2000, in Altercare of Louisville following an brief illness. Born in Caldwell, OH, Nov. 10, 1920, to his parents, the late Clemence and Margaret (Shockling) Schafer, he lived most of his life in the Canton area and was a self-employed auto mechanic having owned the Amoco Station at Clearview. He retired after 40 years of service. Mr. Shafer was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, 97th Hospital Evacuation Unit. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Schafer and daughter, Rita Schafer. Survivors include his loving wife, Juliana Schafer of the home. to whom he was married 52 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Jane Schafer of East Canton, OH, Mark and Vicky Schafer of Canton Twp.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Mike Leasure of Louisville, OH, Ann and Daniel Berg of Louisville, OH; one brother and his spouse, Ruben and Delores Schafer of Caldwell, OH; his sister and her spouse, Dorothy Mae and Bernard Riski of Caldwell, OH; one sister-in-law, Agatha Schafer of Senecaville, OH; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church with Fr. Nicholas Mancini as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home Wednesday 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1459 Superior Ave. NE, Canton, OH.
