Hamlin, 79, Wooster, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at West View Manor Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Akron, the son of the late James E. and Lucretia (Yahner) Hamlin. James was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He worked at American Hard Rubber in Akron and Scott Molder in Kent prior to coming to Wooster to work for Rubbermaid, retiring in 1989 after 30 years there. James served his country in the Air Force. He served on the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Wayne & Holmes Counties, was an executive with SCORE who traveled to the Czech Republic and Guatemala, volunteered at Viola Startzman Free Clinic, a member of the Hilton Head Country Club and a former member of the Wooster Country Club. Surviving are children, Laura A. (Michael) Nunley of Plymouth, Mich., Lisa J. (Jeff) Wiles of Orrville, J. Timothy (Cathie) Hamlin of Prince George County, Va., and Mark Hamlin of Millersburg; grandchildren, Ryan Nunley, Shannon (Marc) Nagel, Erin (Bryan) Patton, Kira (Eric) Mauger, Scott Wiles, Kylene (Brandon) Botts and Trisha Wiles; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Drew, Ben, Madelyn and Ashland; a brother, Thomas (Phyllis) Hamlin of Stow; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Hamlin of Geauga County. Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Joan (Laughman) Hamlin, in 2006, and a brother, Lawrence S. Hamlin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wooster, on Friday Oct. 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. concelebrated by his cousin, the Rev. Gordon Yahner, and the Rev. Stephen Moran. Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman. Friends will be received after the service at the church. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, 44691 or to the Viola Startzman Free Clinic, 1874 Cleveland Road, Wooster, 44691.
