She attended first grade at St. Anthony Sister School, and then in 1924, moved with her family to a farm north of Solen. She attended school through the sixth grade there and then her parents kept her home from school to help with the farm and raise her siblings. In 1954, Peter and Mary purchased the Hilltop Cafe in McIntosh, which she operated until 1977. In addition to the cafe, Mary and Peter raised their 16 children there. Peter died Oct. 11, 1980, and Mary continued to live in McIntosh. In 1997 she moved to an apartment in Lemmon. God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be,
So he put his arm around you and whispered "Come with me."
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, you're now at peaceful rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
