Jack Bullinger, 78, Mandan, died May 6, 2010, at Garrison Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, May 10, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips as celebrant. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Post 707 and American Legion Post 40.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church today.
Jack was born Aug. 7, 1931, in St. Anthony, to Nick and Frances (Bender) Bullinger. In 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He received the National Defense Service, Good Conduct Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1954. On Nov. 8, 1955, Jack married Frances B. Thomas in St. Anthony. Jack worked as an assistant at Hoenig Funeral Home in Mandan and at Central Supply for the hospitals, which he did for 17 years.
An accomplished polka dancer, Jack and Frances always made a wonderful pair, winning 31 trophies in numerous polka contests. His favorite polka being ?Knock Your Socks Off? polka. Jack also enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and spending time along the Missouri River. Bus tours to Branson and Nashville were highlights for him. His grandchildren were very special to him and they enjoyed hearing him play the harmonica. His grandson, Zachary, was especially close to him.
Jack leaves his wife of 54 years, Frances Bullinger, Mandan; two daughters, Diane Bolte, Tappen, and Sharlene Mayer, Dickinson; one son, Allen Bullinger, Mandan; six grandchildren, Daniel, Larry, Rodney, Crystal, Lacy and Zachary; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Clara Hatzenbuhler, Bertha (Robert) Schwartzbauer and Irene Morrell, all of Mandan, and Marlene Schweitzer, Torrington, Wyo.; three brothers, Ralph (Lucille) Bullinger and Kenny Bullinger, both of Mandan, and Lawrence (Kitty) Bullinger, Spokane, Wash.; and his sisters-in-law, Alice Bullinger, Bismarck, and Carol Bullinger, Hensler.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Benny and Nick; his sister, Rose Wetsch; infant sisters, Linda and Annie; and his brothers-in-law, Joe Hatzenbuhler and Mike Wetsch.
