Myrtis D. Funke
Myrtis D. Funke, 87, formerly of Dallas and Mount Zion, passed away Saturday in Bradenton, Fla., where she had resided.
Born in Wilkes Barre, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Sarah Ann Keats Disque. She was a graduate of Dallas Borough High School and attended the former College Misericordia.
During World War II, she was employed by the War Department in the chemical division. Before retiring, she was an embroidery design artist for Herman Funke & Sons Mills, Ashley.
She was an avid reader as well as an animal lover, having rehabilitated many small animals during her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E., in 1995; brothers, Kenneth K., Richard H. and William J.K. Disque; sister, Jean Funke.
Surviving are her son, Henry John, Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Dr. Saralee Funke, Allentown; sister, Lucille Bittenbender, Donnelly, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at noon from Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Dr. William D. Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Park, Carverton. Calling hours will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m. to service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705.
