Schmidt, 74, Bismarck, died Nov. 13, 2005, at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Church of St. Mary's, Bismarck, with the Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where there will be a parish vigil/rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service on Thursday. Nick was born May 10, 1931, in Odense, to John and Margaret (Schaff) Schmidt. June 21, 1954, he married Ottillia Berger in Glen Ullin. He farmed for 22 years in Odense. He was involved in the construction business for 31 years, which involved being a crane operator for a local construction company. Nick was also a custodian at the state capital for eight years. Nick spent many hours enjoying a favorite pastime of his, bingo. Another great passion of his was accordion music. Nick was a resident at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, for three years due to diabetes and heart strokes. Nick is survived by his three brothers, Jack Schmidt, Bismarck, Joe (Emily) Schmidt, Bismarck, and Tony (Judy) Schmidt, Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Margaret (Matt) Gerhardt, Yakima, Wash., and Mary Ann Schantz, Mandan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother; three sisters, Rose, Barbara and Josephine; brothers-in law; and sisters-in law.
