Ervin Gerhard Waala Jr. ?Mickey?, age 84, of West Bend, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 27, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at the Kathy Hospice in the town of West Bend.
Ervin was born on October 15, 1927, in Barton, to the late Irvin and Frieda (nee Otten) Waala Sr. On April 7, 1945, Ervin was united in marriage to Betty Geib at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Barton. Shortly after their marriage Ervin enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably during WWII. Upon his return from the war, Ervin worked at McGraw-Edison as a supervisor. He had many talents including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, moving houses, building, and remodeling homes. He became quite an entrepreneur who built, owned, and operated several businesses including the Snack Shack which is now Tomaso?s Pizza in Barton, as well as Waala Wheel and Tire. Ervin and Betty later ?retired? to Little Green Lake near Markesan where they ran a motel and rented out cottages returning to West Bend in 2010. Ervin was an avid sports fan playing baseball for Barton in the Land O? Lakes league. He also loved the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. Above all, Ervin was a loving family man and enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ervin is survived by his loving wife, Betty; 10 children, Ervin (Susan) Waala III, Samuel (Margaret) Waala, Stephen (Debra) Waala, Gay (Frank) Heimerl, Gary (Ursula) Waala, Todd (Sandra) Waala, Kay (George) Gudex, Lori (Jay) Schneider, Michael (Jill) Waala, and David (Shelly) Waala; 35 grandchildren, Andrea, April, Brooke, Katie, Anne, Greg, Luke, Andrew, Angela, Jaime, Michelle, Laura, Christian, Dana, Amy, Kara, Jessica, Travis, Amber, Benjamin, Jason, Tracy, Jason, Tony, Brandon, Grant, Evan, Macie, Bethany, Harrison, Madeline, Hayden, Elijah, Keaton, and Mia-Faith; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Varnes.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Jeanne; two sisters, Joan Dickmann and Jane Kleinhans; and two brothers, Gerald and Ronald Waala.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial in remembrance of Ervin will be held on Friday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, 1610 Monroe Street, West Bend. Visitation will be on Friday at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the mass.
Memorials to St. Mary?s Catholic Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, Cedar Community, and the Kathy Hospice for all of the compassionate care that was given to Ervin and his family over the past five months.
