Mandel, 70, of the Town of Tonawanda, retired zone manager and senior distribution scheduler for the Ford Motor Co. district office in Williamsville, died Sunday (May 31, 1998) in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Buffalo, he graduated from Kensington High School and received his degree in business management from Canisius College in 1951. He served during World War II as a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy. A member of the Canisius College Alumni Association, he was an avid sports fan, especially of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. Prior to his employment with Ford, he worked in sales for Prudential Insurance Co. He served with Ford for 28 years before his retirement in 1990. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, the former Marion "Peggy" May; two daughters, Susan Wood of Alden and Sandra of the Town of Tonawanda; three sons, Brian of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Alan and John, both of the Town of Tonawanda; a sister, Mary Jane Smith of the Town of Tonawanda; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.

Leo A. Mandel, 70, of the Town of Tonawanda, retired zone manager and senior distribution scheduler for the Ford Motor Co. district office in Williamsville, died Sunday (May 31, 1998) in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.
