Ben married Winona Ada Rice on March 10, 1909 in the home of her parents at Marion Center, Indiana Co., PA. She died in 1915. He remarried Florence E. Conrad in April 1919. She died in 1932. He remarried Minnie L. (Dunlap) Kline on September 28, 1933 in Punxsutawney, Jefferson Co., PA.
Ben was killed at the Riker Yards in Bell Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.

The following obituary appeared in the "Indiana Evening Gazette" (Indiana, PA) on Tuesday, 13 November, 1951, page 6, column 6:
BENTON E. FURMAN, 60, a veteran railroader of 42 years, was crushed to death under the wheels of a Baltimore & Ohio freight train in the Ricker [sic] yards about 7:25 o'clock Friday evening. Dr. R. L. Shaffer, of Brookville, Jefferson County Coroner, listed the death as accidental.
The deceased had been a resident of Punxsutawney the past 27 years, and resided at 122 Pleasant Avenue at the time of his death. He would have been 61 next Friday.
A flagman, he had completed a trip on the Indiana Branch line and was last seen boarding a caboose in the Riker Yards. His body was found on the railroad tracks a few minutes later by Brakeman George T. Longwell, of Clymer.
He was born November 16, 1890, in Deckers Point, a son of Cyrus and Edith Montgomery Furman. He was married to Minnie Kline, on September 28, 1923 [sic], and belonged to the Church of God. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was employed by the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railway Company in 1909, and transferred to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad when the organization took over the B. R. & P. in 1932.
He is survived by his wife and these sons and daughters: Harold and Wesley, and Mrs. Walter Smith, Punxsutawney, and Mrs. Ruth McClanahan, Middletown, O. Also the following brothers and sisters: Lynn, of Home; William, of Kirby, Montana; Mrs. Carrie DeHaven, of Punxsutawney; Mrs. Roy Montgomery, of Marion Center; Mrs. Zelda Walker, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Walter Boor, of Homestead, and Mrs. Earl Benfir, of Hiawatha, Kansas. Nine grandchildren survive.
Eight step-children also survive: Eddie, Harry, Clarence and Paul Kline, Mrs. Marie Decker, Mrs. Clarence Clinton, Mrs. Sam Conway and Mrs. Frank Milliron; step-brother, J. A. Lambing, Homer, Pa. A son, Clarence, preceded him in death.
Funeral services took place at 2 p. m. yesterday with Edward Hepburn officiating. Interment was in Marion Center.
