  [S927] Obituary. aymond C. Mettler, age 72, of Menno, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the Landmann Jungman Memorial Hospital, Scotland, SD. Memorial services will be at 2pm Thursday August 2, 2007 at the Peace Christian Reform Church, Menno, SD. Scattering of the cremated remains are immediately following at the Menno Lake with Military graveside rites by the Ramos Bender American Legion Post #152. Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno, SD is in charge of arrangements. Honorary Pallbearers include his children, grandchildren, great grandson, and all of his dear friends. Raymond was born January 8, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa, son of Helmuth and Sarah (Hasz) Mettler. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School and then entered the US Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1957. February 21, 1960, Raymond married Shirley M. Winter in Wessington Springs, SD. They have four children: Dawn (Dale), Pamela (Tim), Cindy (Lee), Matthew (Jill), sixteen grandchildren and one great grandson. Throughout his life, Raymond was employed at Cenex, the Menno Lumberyard and the Menno Hardware store. He spent countless hours in developing and establishing the Menno Lake. He was a member of Peace Christian Reformed Church of Menno, SD where he sang in a quartet and was a former Deacon. Raymond spent much of his time with his family and friends. He loved to hunt and fish with his buddies, which included lots of shooting and practicing archery. Along with attending their many activities, he especially enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren teaching them how to hunt and fish. He was an avid Twins, Viking and Menno athletics fan and took every opportunity to watch them. or listen to them on the radio. Raymond is survived by his wife Shirley of Menno, daughters Dawn (Dale) Obermiller of Omaha, NE, Pamela (Tim) Segich of Logan Township, NJ, and Cindy (Lee) Bartlett of Harrisburg, SD; son Matthew (Jill) of Crystal, MN; sister Deanna Von Eye of Miller, SD; sixteen grandchildren: Kerri, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Abby, Emmy, Andrea, Brittany, Timmy, Cassie, Chelsea, Skyla, Andrew, Alexander, Hannah, Hunter, and Mia; great grandson, Carson, host of nieces, nephews and friends.
