Clifford Mettler

Clifford E. Mettler, age 82, of Menno, died on Thursday June 19, 2008 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday June 23, 2008 at the Zion Reformed Church, Menno, SD, with Rev. Scott Henry officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery, Menno. Visitations will be from 2-9 p.m., Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Tom Fischer, Barry Mettler, Arlo Rohlfs, Jim Fanning, Terry Huber and Dewayne Herrboldt.
Clifford E. Mettler was born on June 26, 1925 to Christ F. and Emma (Roduner) Mettler northeast of Menno, SD. He was baptized as an infant. He attended rural school and was confirmed by Rev. Bodenman. He married Gertrude Wollman on October 26, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Menno, SD. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. During their marriage, they acquired 2 children, Jan and Clyde.
Clifford enjoyed farming, raising horses, serving on the board of directors for the Rural Electric Association on the local, state, and national levels for several years, and serving on the board of directors of the Farmers Union Oil Company and several other boards. After retirement, Clifford loved to spend his time at the Pioneer Power Show. Clifford was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a lifetime member of Zion Reformed Church where he also serves as a Trustee and Elder and Sunday School Teacher.
Those that were grateful to share his life were his wife Gertrude Mettler; daughter Jan (Ruben) Torres and son Clyde Mettler, all of Menno, SD, 2 grandchildren Tyler and Sakura; 2 sisters Delores (Walter) Wollman, Tripp, SD, and Dorothea Prouty, Sioux Falls, SD; a brother Harvey (Margaret) Mettler, Sahuarita, AZ; 2 sisters-in-law Dorothy (Orville) Huber, Clayton, SD, and Esther Herrboldt, Akron, IA, and many loved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; a half brother Gideon C. Mettler; 3 half sisters Thilma Guthmiller, Idella Goehring, and Edna Aisenbrey and his brother-in-law and best friend, Elmer Wollman.
