Esther Herrboldt

Esther A. Herrboldt, age 81, of Yankton, SD passed away early Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Akron Care Center, Akron, IA.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. Jim Mueller officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be approximately 1:30 p.m. at the Menno Cemetery.
Visitations will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all her grandchildren.
Esther Alice (Wollman) Herrboldt was born May 25, 1929 to Herman and Emma (Mehlhaf) Wollman, of rural Olivet, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended Parkston High School and the Teacher?s College in Springfield, SD. She married Melvin Herrboldt on July 17, 1949. They farmed near Lesterville, South Dakota. To this union four children were born; Marcelline, DuWayne, Rosemarie and Patricia.
Esther taught classes in a country school, farmed, and was employed with the NFO Collection Point, Gurney?s Seed and Nursery, Kochi Motel, and the South Dakota State Human Services Center.

Esther enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved doing crafts; she always had a new creation to give to the grandchildren or had time to show them how to enjoy using their imagination in making their own original piece of art.
Esther passed after a long illness with acute leukemia.
She is survived by her four children: Marcelline (Roland) Marquardt of Las Vegas, Nevada; DuWayne (Lugene Theel) Herrboldt of Lesterville, South Dakota; Rosemarie Schamber of Lincoln, Nebraska and Patricia (Arlo) Rohlfs of Akron, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, with one on the way; two step grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; sisters, Gertie Mettler of Menno, South Dakota and Dorothy (Orville) Huber of Emery, South Dakota, and a host of nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law (Elmer & Elaine Wollman), brother-in-law (Clifford Mettler), and two step grandchildren (Michael Rohlfs and Ashley Hamerly).
The family would like to express their appreciation for everyone that donates to their local blood bank, as donations keep loved ones alive.
