Melvin Goehring, 67, Freeman, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salem Mennonite Church, rural Freedom. Burial will be at Menno City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Walter Funeral Home, Freeman, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Melvin C. Goehring were held Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at the Salem Mennonite Church, Freeman, with the Rev. S. Roy Kaufman and the Rev. Stacey Waltner officiating.
Interment was made in the Menno Cemetery with Walter Funeral Home, Freeman, in charge of arrangements. Honorary casketbearers were his grandchildren, Pat, Josh, Lynette, Andrew, Blake and Kris, Whitney, Kassie and Baylee, Austin and Amber and Shad. Casketbearers were Pat Murphy, Scott Goehring, Leland Goehring, Corey Goehring, Terry Goehring, and Brian Goehring.
Melvin C. Goehring was born April 1, 1939, to Martha (Kreiger) and Andrew Goehring near rural Freeman.
He married Marilyn Jean Wagner on June 12, 1960, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in rural Menno.
He was baptized in the Reformed Church on May 18, 1939, near rural Freeman. He was currently a member of the Salem Mennonite Church of rural Freeman. He attended high school in Menno and graduated with his class in 1957.
After high school he worked for Johnny Kaufman Road Construction for approximately three years. His job with construction made it possible for them to live in Wounded Knee in the Black Hills for the first six months of their marriage. Upon returning from Wounded Knee, they were able to start farming south of Freeman by November of 1960. He worked at the Menno Sale Barn for a number of years and also drove truck for Earl Wagner Trucking. He did custom baling, corn shelling, hay stack moving, and assisted in the moving of buildings. He farmed for the past 46 years of his life.
He died Sunday evening, Aug. 20, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. He attained the age of 67 years.
He is survived by his wife; six children, Linda (Steve) Murphy, Arlington, Randy (Betty) Goehring, Marion, Kelly (Randy) Boese, Tabor, Anita (Alan) Hoff, Tripp, Doris Higgins, Freeman, and Bonnie (Mark) Tschetter, Freeman; brothers, LeRoy (Cheryl) Goehring, Emery, Dale Goehring, Minneapolis, Minn.; and sister, Betty Bisping, Pierce, Neb.; 12 grandchildren, Patrick and Josh Murphy, Lynette Kaufman, Andrew and Blake Goehring, and Kris Huntimer, Whitney, Kassie and Baylee Boese, Austin and Amber Hoff; and Shad Tschetter; and three great-grandchildren, Carson Murphy, Alexis and Avery Kaufman.
