John Theodore Ferner was the eldest of the two sons born to Theodore Henry Ferner and his wife Louise Eyer Ferner. John was born 11 September 1897 in Rochester, New York. He served in the US Army as a Private in WWI; he graduated from the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York; he married Dorothy Flora Seel, daughter of Jack Seel and Carrie Queiser in Salem Evangelical Church, Rochester, New York, on 17 August 1927. John taught mathematics in the Rochester Public School System for many years, much of the time at Monroe High School. He and Dorothy raised two sons. After John retired from teaching, he and Dorothy moved to North Carolina. On 30 July 1984, John died in Clemmons, North Carolina; he was 86 years, 10 months, 19 days old at the time of his death. He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in the plot with his parents and other Ferner family members.
