---- ? Elmer R. ?Rick? Houck Jr. of 979 Rutledge Road, Pymatuning Township (Transfer), passed away Thursday evening (3-15-12) in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 54.
Mr. Houck was born Oct. 13, 1957, in Oil City to Elmer R. Houck Sr. and Shirley F. Tressler Houck.
He was a 1977 graduate of Cranberry (Pa.) High School.
Mr. Houck was previously employed by Pepsi Co., Franklin, and had worked for the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission.
He attended Transfer Baptist Church.
Rick was active in Scouts since his youth and continued as an adult. He was currently the district commissioner for Chief Kiondashwa District, where he had previously served as a unit commissioner. He also had served as a Bear leader, Weblo leader and committee chairperson for Cub Scout Pack 100 of Greenville, and as a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 52 of Transfer. For his efforts in scouting, Rick was awarded the Arrowhead Honor Award, the Commissioner Key, the District Award of Merit, the District?s Chairman?s Award, the Cub Scout Den Leader Award and the Weblos Den Leader Award.
Rick was also active with Little League baseball. He was a past president of Reynolds Little League, served as tournament director during All-Stars, held various positions on Section 2/District 2 Little League staff and umpired many regular season games.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds, and had previously served as a volunteer with Transfer Volunteer Fire Department.
He was an active participant with the Greenville Relay For Life as a co-captain for the Angels Without Wings team.
Rick was a loving and devoted husband, dad and friend to many, and truly loved attending as many of his children?s events as possible.
His wife, the former Tonya L. Addison, whom he married April 24, 1999, survives at home.
Also surviving are: four daughters, Jodi Burgdorfer and her husband Marty; and Julie Burgdorfer and her husband Steve, all Kennerdell, Venango County; and Miranda Miller and Kendra Houck, both at home; a son, Nathan Houck, at home; his stepfather, Robert Harvanek, Cranberry; a brother, Jeff Houck and his wife Deb, Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sisters, Cindy Boocks and her husband Dick; and Jennifer Houck and her fiancé Jason Dombrosky, all Oil City; and three grandchildren, Dustin Burgdorfer, Kylie Burgdorfer and Landon Burgdorfer.
Also surviving are his in-laws, Ronald and Glenna Addison, Greenville; and Sandy and Lewis Riley, Transfer.
Mr. Houck was preceded in death by his parents.

Burial: With committal at Transfer Cemetery.
