ona W. Ricketts, 87, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Iona will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1315 W. Pleasant St., Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. The family invites you to pray the rosary with them at 7:00 p.m.
Iona Wanetta Corbin was born on November 2, 1924 in Nevada, Iowa, a daughter of Hugh and Emma (Wirth) Corbin. She was a graduate of Nevada High School. Iona was united in marriage to Fred L. Ricketts on September 23, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1997.
Iona was a member of Holy Family Parish, and their prayer chain, C.E.W., and Altar and Rosary Society groups. She also volunteered at Good Samaritan Nusing Home, for Hospice groups, and feeding the hungry.
Iona was deeply devoted to her faith, and was committed to daily prayer. She was very generous, giving you anything you might need. She was affectionately known as "Mom" to many.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
Iona is survived by her children and their spouses: Barrie (Mary Ann) Ricketts, Wheaton, IL, Fred (Patricia) Ricketts, Blue Grass, Steve Ricketts, Tom Ricketts, Kevin (Mary) Ricketts, and Faith (Bill) Pinault, all of Davenport, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters: Rosella Schebler, Davenport, and Mary (Ron) Fincham, Eldridge; brothers, Jack (Shirley) Corbin, Ronald (Helen Ann) Corbin, and Donald (Carol) Corbin, all of Davenport.
Iona was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, a daughter-in-law, Bonnie, her parents, brothers, Lawrence "Abe" Corbin, Edward Corbin, and Jerry Corbin .
