Dauenhauer, Sr., beloved husband of Mamie Sprauer; father of Mrs. Mary D. Erlinger, Mrs. George Johnson, Mrs. Stanley Ray, and Alvin Daunhauer and the late Louis L. Dauenhauer, Jr; brother of Thomas Dauenhauer, Mrs. Katherine Lytjen, Mrs. George Geiger and the late Casmier Dauenhauer and J. B. Dauenhauer Jr., also survived by 12 grandchildren; aged 69 years; a native and a resident of Gretna, La.
Relatives and friends of the family, also officers and members of the Woodmen of the World Camp, 620 Louisiana, Exempt Society Hook and Ladder, employees of the Gretna Court House and Jefferson Parish Sheriff Offices, are invited to attend the funeral, which will take place from the Gretna Home of Leitz-Eagan, 919 Amelia avenue on Friday morning, July 20, 1956, at 9:30 o'clock, followed by requiem high mass at St. Joseph's church. Interment in Hook and Ladder cemetery. Parlors will be open at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 1956.
1956 Times-Picayune, July 19, 1956 p 4 c 4; "Ex-Civil Deputy Succumbs at 67 -- Dauenhauer Served Under 3 Jeff Sheriffs," Louis L. Dauenhauer, 67, retired chief deputy civil sheriff of Jefferson Parish, died at his home Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. after an illness which confined him to his home for several weeks.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home of Leitz-Eagan, 919 Amelia, Gretna. Requiem high mass will follow at St. Joseph's church. Interment will be in Hook and Ladder cemetery.
Mr. Dauenhauer resided with his wife and daughter at 726 Derbigny, Gretna.
Mr. Dauenhauer served under the administrations of the late sheriff L. H. Marrero, and his brother, the late sheriff J. B. Dauenhauer and under former sheriff Frank J. Clancy.
His survivors include his wife, the former Miss Celina Sprauer; a son, Alvin Dauenhauer; and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Erlinger, Mrs. Stanley Ray, and Mrs. George Johnson.
He began his political career in his teens at the old Gretna courthouse, which is now the Knights of Columbus home, under the administration of the late Sheriff Marrero. He retired June 1.
