- [S927] Obituary.
PERKINSVILLE - Thomas N. Huber, age 71, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at his home after a brief illness.
Tom was born May 14, 1935 in Perkinsville, the son of Herman and Cecelia (Rauber) Huber. He was a 1953 graduate of Wayland Central School. He married Virginia Wulforst on July 6, 1957 at St. Joseph Church in Wayland, she survives. He owned and operated the Huber family farm from 1953 until his death. He sold the dairy cows in 1987. He worked at Morris and Knudsen in Hornell, retiring in 1998. Tom was predeceased by an infant brother, Paul Huber.
Tom was a communicant member of the Sacred Heart Church of the Holy Family Catholic Community in Perkinsville. He was a life and active member of the Perkinsville Fire Department, serving for more than 53 years and he was a member of the Wayland American Legion Post.
Tom enjoyed participating in Antique Tractor Pulls all across Western New York, tailoring his Case or John Deere Tractors to these events with his wife Ginny or his good friend Carl Johantgen, hoping to bring home a ribbon. During the winter months, he could often be found fine tuning his tractors for the next pulling season. Tom was also an avid fisherman and hunter. In the early evening he could be found peering through the binoculars, anticipation building for the new hunting season. Watching sports on television was a favorite pastime. He and Gin are avid New York Mets baseball and Syracuse Orangemen basketball fans, but most of all Tom loved spending time with his loving wife, family, and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia (Ginny) Huber; his children, Paul T. Huber of Rushville, Theresa (Douglas) Landis of Coshocton, Thomas (Jacqueline) Huber of Perkinsville, Julie (John) Peck of Gorham, Michael R. Friends may call from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. June 9 at the Walter E. Baird and Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Perkinsville.
