Klem, Herbert J.
Geneva: Herbert John Erbland Klem, 90, died peacefully on Feb. 13, 2017 in Geneva General Hospital after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Geneva, NY.
He was born in Webster, NY, Aug. 11, 1926, the son of Herbert John Erbland and Clara Kasper. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Seneca Lake Terrace in Geneva, NY, where he continued to enjoy the companionship and mutual support of his dear friend and loving companion of 27 years, Suzanne M. Swingly, who resides at Seneca Lake Terrace.
Herb lived in Rochester, NY most of his life and worked as an Engineer for Olin Chemical for many years until his retirement. He served in the United States Army and worked on the Manhattan Project. He was an avid Skier, Hiker, golfer, bicyclist, gardener and reader. He was an active member of the Monroe Ski Club enjoying the friendships he formed over many years.
He is survived by Suzanne M. Swingly, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents; Clara and Herbert Erbland, adoptive parents; Agnes and Ralph Klem, siblings; Paul (Ester) Erbland, Anna Clara (Henry) Quirin, Clair Erbland, Lawrence Erbland, Margaret (Jacob) Keymel, Blance Erbland, William (Barbara) Erbland, twin sisters, Alice (Thomas) Young, Agnes (Matthew) Steckel and his adopted sister, Mary Jane Klem.
Family and friends express their thanks to the staff of Seneca Lake Terrace for their kind care of Herb during his short time with them; to the staff of Geneva General Hospital Emergency Dept. and the ICU for their excellent care and sensitive and supportive counsel at the end of Herb's life. The Swingly Family wishes to express its gratitude for Herb's long and faithful care and support of Suzanne.
