BOSOLD, Robert R. "Bob," 90, of Shadyside, OH, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Shadyside Care Center.
He was born in Wheeling, WV, on March 18, 1922, the son of the late Maurice and Margaret Lough Bosold.
Bob grew up on Wheeling Island and attended Wheeling Central High School.
He enlisted in the Army to fight, in his words, "the war that had to be won." He served five years in the Mediterranean, North African and Sicilian campaigns. He received two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.
He retired in 1982 from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel's Yorkville Plant where he worked on the "electrical gang."
Together with his wife, Anne, they operated the Carriage House Restaurant & Bar in Shadyside until 1978. He was an avid hunter and was always most at home "in the woods." This was his true passion and he hunted year round until the age of 83. He loved his beautiful yard and could always be found working outside.
He was a Catholic by faith, a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV and the NRA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Paul and Leo and his sisters, T. Eileen Pavilky Kosanovic and Mary Rix and a niece, Carol Anne Pavilky.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Anne M. Sisamis Caiazza Bosold; his stepchildren, Joanne (Dennis) Mihelich of Omaha, Nebraska, John (Terrie) Caiazza of Shadyside, OH and Pamela (Stan) Cwalinski of Jacobsburg, OH; his grandchildren, Heidi Mihelich, Amber (Jim) Chill, Brant, Clayton (Alissa) and Erik Cwalinski and Angela and Vincent Caiazza and great-granddaughters, Giovanna Chill and Mia Cwalinski. Also several nieces and nephews including Robert (Violet) Pavilky of Bridgeport, OH.
A memorial gathering of family and friends will be at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, OH, on Friday, August 3, 2012, from 1 until time of services at 3 p.m. with Pastor Peter Walburn officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Powhatan Cemetery in Powhatan Point, OH.
