Rita M.
(Strausser) Cammel
Rita M. (Strasser) Cammel, 78, of Canton died Feb. 14, 2006, at home after a three-year battle with cancer in which she maintained her good spirits. Rita was a selfless person, always giving and meeting others? needs above her own. She reached out in many capacities, especially to her large family and many friends. She always tried to honor God through her persistent faith. She loved to laugh and touched even strangers? hearts. Born Jan. 6, 1928, to Helen (Wackerly) and Joseph Strasser, Rita graduated from Central Catholic High School and Ohio State University. She was a lifelong area resident and a homemaker most of her life. Over the years, Rita was active at St. Michael?s Catholic Church, Harvest Christian Center, Cathedral of Life, Canton Christian Fellowship and Canton Temple of Praise, as well as Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, Catholic Family Movement and various church groups. She was preceded in death by husband Nick A. Cammel, whom she married July 21, 1951, and her brother, Robert Strasser. She is survived by daughters, Sharon (Robert) Camner, Shirley Grooms, Sharlene (Jeff) Monteforte and Susanne (Rob) Mason; sons Dennis, Tom (Jane), Robert (Lisa), Rick (Lisa), Ron and Michael (Susan); 20 grandchildren; brother Dick (Betty) Strasser; brothers and sisters -in-law Vince and Nesta Cammel, Don and Kathy Cammel, Evelyn Numbers and Mary Bridge; several nieces and nephews and special friends. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11 AM in Canton Temple of Praise with the Rev. Randal L. Holdman officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
