On Thursday, March 30, Charles ("Chuck") William Goering passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Hauck Goering, father, Albert William Goering, and brother Albert Hauck Goering. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Caroline Hastings Goering and four children Richard (Eleanor) Goering of Ft. Mitchell, KY, Meg Goering Ward of Trussville, AL, Ann (Sharon Hopper) Goering of Burlington, VT and Addison (Jody) Goering of Bourbonnais, IL. Loving grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, John B. Goering of Cincinnati, OH and cousins, Robert Goering of Cincinnati, OH and Ruth Ferguson. Born on May 23, 1929 in Cincinnati, OH, he graduated from Hughes High School in 1946, graduated from Wabash College in 1950, received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1952, and served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956. He married Caroline Hastings on August 30, 1952 in Irvington, NY. He owned Erlanger Lumber Co until its sale in 1991. Chuck's charitable work touched many in the Greater Cincinnati area and beyond. He served as the advisory board chairman of The United Way. His work with the local community was focused on families, children and education. He served as president of the Wabash College board of trustees from 1990 to 1998. Chuck and Caroline traveled to Europe, Australia, Antarctica, Africa, Russia, Galapagos Islands, all over the US and Canada, as well as the Virgin Islands, where they spent many winters. They spent summers on Caspian Lake in Greensboro, VT with family and friends. He never met a stranger and will be truly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
