argaret Mary Harnish, M.D. (nee Schoren), 56 years old, of Las Cruces, N.M., died suddenly on Jan. 15, 2009, from complications related to a chronic illness.
She was born in Cleveland on Nov. 9, 1952.
She was a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, with magna cum laude honors. She was a 1977 graduate of the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.
On completion of her residency in obstetrics and gynecology in Toledo, she practiced medicine at Holzer Clinic in Gallipolis. She went on to practice at Holzer Clinic in Roswell, N.M., and then at the First Step Clinics in Las Cruces, N.M.
Dr. Harnish was a lifelong contributor to animal rights organizations and shelters and was the loving caretaker of two Maine Coon Cats at the time of her death. She was able to fulfill her dream of scuba diving in the waters of the Galapagos Islands.
She is survived by her parents, Joanna and William Schoren of Oberlin, Ohio. She is also survived by two sisters, four brothers, four nieces, five nephews, two step-nephews, two great nieces and two great nephews.
