MANSFIELD: Kenneth Robert Gerhardstein, 75, of Dirlam Lane, Mansfield, died Saturday evening May 13, 2006 in Country Meadow Care Center, following a year-long illness.
He was born December 19, 1930 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Oscar C. and Ruth (Carpenter) Gerhardstein and was graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1948 in Fort Wayne.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal.
Kenneth earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from The Indiana Institute of Technology in 1957, the year he moved to Mansfield.
He served Ideal Electric in Mansfield as an engineer and business executive for 33 years, retiring in 1986 as Vice-President of Marketing.
He is survived by his wife Virginia A. (Brokaw) Gerhardstein, whom he married September 25, 1954; a daughter Anne Bender of Mansfield; a son and daughter-in-law Kenneth R. and Martina Gerhardstein of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a grandson and his wife Andrew and Anna Bender of Chicago, Illinois; a great grandson Owen A. Bender; a sister and brother-in-law Joan and Ronald Brouwer and a sister-in-law Irma Gerhardstein all of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Gerhardstein and mother Ruth Elmer; a son-in-law Gary Bender; and a brother Arthur Gerhardstein.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 16, 2006 from 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to Gorman Nature Center, which may be made at the funeral home.
