Bennett, Wendell E.
On July 6, 2009, Wendell, 84, a former resident of Anchorage, Alaska, and more recently a resident of Sun City and Peoria, died of congestive heart failure. He was born to Silas and Maybelle Bennett in Topeka, Kansas. He served in the US Navy in two wars, WWII and the Korean War. In 1965, he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska. He retired from the Municipality of Anchorage in 1986. In retirement, Wendell lived in Sun City, where he was an active member of his condominium association and a volunteer with the Sun City Posse for more than nine years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 62 in Peoria. Wendell was interred with military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix on July 14, 2009. Wendell had a zest for life and always enjoyed himself. Most remember his jokes and constant advice to others to have, "fun, fun, fun." His quick wit and generosity were among his most endearing qualities. Wendell is survived by his two daughters, Cherlyn Castaldo of Fairfax, Virginia, and Marlene "Jo" Bennett of Anchorage; brother Glenn E. Bennett of Brentwood, Tennessee. He is also survived by his former wife, Eileen D. Bennett of Anchorage.Published in The Arizona Republic on August 16, 2009
