Bio: Barbara Gene (Feallock) Burkhardt, 87, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, due to complications following a fall. Born in Michigan City, Indiana on December 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Feallock.A graduate of Michigan City High School and DePauw University, she received her graduate training in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University. During her active career life, she was the Director of Training for the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A long-time resident of Ann Arbor, she had a community reputation for her culinary skills and was the subject of a feature article about her cooking in the Ann Arbor News.Following retirement, Barbara and her late husband, Carl Burkhardt, moved to Asheville and eventually became residents of Givens Estates United Methodist Retirement Community. Barbara was a lifelong member of the Episcopalian Church, providing help to the needy and those suffering illness and disability; even after she became a resident of the Givens Health Center, the Givens Estates nursing care facility, she continued her life of service as long as her health allowed, welcoming new residents and participating in the religious activities provided by the Center.Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Carl, Barbara is survived by her brother Richard Feallock (Elaine) of Owens Sound, Ontario, Canada, and her brother John Ben Feallock, Oxford, Ohio. She is also survived by her four nieces and a number of great-nieces.Memorial and graveside services celebrating her life will be held at the Givens Health Center, Asheville, NC ((828) 771-2900) and the Calvary Episcopal Church, Fletcher, NC (828.684.6320). Each should be contacted for further information about dates and times of the services.
