Ens Ralph Leroy Broedel

Death: Jun. 13, 1944
Ensign Broedel, unmarried, attended Ohio University for two years before enlisting in the Navy in Sept. 1941. He received his fighter pilot training in Corpus Christi, TX, and died during routine takeoff from an aircraft carrier in the Pacific after the engine on his plane failed. His body was never recovered, but his name is inscribed here on his parents' stone in addition to the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial (ABMC) in the Philippines where many Navy dead are memorialized. He was the brother of Elmer, Howard, Margaret, and Eleanor Broedel and grandson of Michael and Margaret Stoffel Broedel and Israel and Mary Catherine Hastings Whitehouse.
Died at age 22.
