Harriet Schutte
Harriet E. Schutte, 90, of Kahoka, Mo., died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
Born May 16, 1920, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Frank and Myrtle Stopper Whitehead. On July 20, 1942, she married Robert C. Schutte in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Mrs. Schutte farmed with her husband was a homemaker, and kept the books for Austin Diehl at his auto repair shop in Kahoka. She attended Grinnell College in Iowa and business college in St. Louis. She worked as a bookkeeper for a construction firm in St. Louis.
She volunteered many years for American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.

She was known to take in strays, including a ground hog and skunks, and was an excellent cook known for her special noodles and potato salad.
She enjoyed daily coffee and tea with the White Car Widow Society, family dinners, refinishing furniture, gardening and getting on her John Deere mower and tending the yard.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Schutte and William Schutte, both of Kahoka; one daughter, Carol "Toots" Kirchner of Kahoka; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Janette VanderMast of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Schutte will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, with the Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Clark County Youth Fund and Keokuk Area Hospital Serenity Room.
