NILES - Mary F. Yanke, 90, of Mobile Boulevard, died at 4:02 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12 in Regency Place Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, following an extended illness. Mrs. Yanke was born on July 29, 1916, in Lexington, Ohio, to William and Margaret (Hoverstick) Wages. She lived most of her life in Berrien County, coming from Ohio at the age of 13. Mary was a member of Fairland Christian Church, Niles. She was a former employee of Zenith Company, St. Joseph, MI and also waitressed at the Elks Club, Niles. Mary enjoyed playing both the piano and organ, and crocheting. On February 10, 1934, in Berrien Springs, MI, she first married Leon C. Nieb who died on August 9, 1954. She later married on October 24, 1959 in Buchanan, MI, to Emil H. Yanke, who also preceded her in death on February 15, 1992. Mary is survived by daughter, Leah Neldon of Bulls Gap, TN; son, Stuart Nieb of Denver, CO; daughter, Linda (Frank) Milum of Bulls Gap, TN; sons, Russell (Mary) Nieb of Niles, Leon (Sharon) Nieb of Louisville, CO, and Brian (Diana) Nieb of Argos, IN; daughters, Mary (Patrick) Scanlan of Denver, and Kathy Lawson of Niles; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Davis of Edwardsburg, MI. Mrs. Yanke was also preceded in death by a brother, Russell Wages who died November 13, 1991; and a sister, Elizabeth J. "Betty" Rusch who died June 8, 1997. Funeral services for Mary F. Yanke will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, in Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Mr. Don Fleishchman of Fairland Christian Church in Niles officiating. Committal services will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2007 in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Fairland Christian Church.
