BUCHANAN - Jerrold Lou "Jerry" Carlson, 79, of Fayette, MO, formerly of Buchanan, MI, died on June 1, 2009, in Fayette, of natural causes. He was born to Iver and Ruth (Olson) Carlson in Chicago, IL, on June 27, 1929. On August 15, 1948, he married Jeanne Myers at the First Presbyterian Church in Buchanan. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Carlson of Fayette, MO; daughters, Cherilyn (Mark) Rzepka of Lake Alfred, FL, and LuAnn (Ron) Wisniewski of South Bend; sons, Scott (Debi) Carlson of Buchanan and Rene (Linda) Carlson of Ellabell, GA; sister, Diane Carlson of Arlington, VA; and brother, Glen (Nina) Carlson of Buchanan; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joyce Weaver, and a brother, Roger Carlson. Jerry worked as a quality inspector for Buchanan Steel Products from 1951 which later became National-Standard. In 1968 he and his family moved to Havana, IL, where he became plant manager at National-Standard. In 1976 they moved to St. Petersburg, FL, where he worked for the Irwin Yacht Co. During the next 12 years, Jerry and Jeanne lived on their sailboat and enjoyed many great sailing adventures. Their sailboat, the Jeannie II, was featured in the 1985 Carl Reiner film "Summer Rental," starring John Candy and Rip Torn. Following that period they made their home in Theodosia and then Fayette, Missouri. A memorial service will be held in the Swem Funeral Home on July 10, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Pat Ramsden of the Presbyterian Church, Buchanan, will officiate.
