WHIPPLE - David Charles Schott, 53, of Whipple, died Sunday
(June 1, 2008) at the Ohio State University Medical Center in
Columbus. Dave was a cancer survivor, but died from compli-
cations following surgery. He was born May 15, 1955, in Marietta to Charles L. and Eliza-
beth ?Betty? Schilling Schott. He attended Salem-Liberty Elementary
and graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1973. He had been
employed at Marietta Ignition, Rech Farm Equipment, Marietta
Farm and Garden, MIE, and Leslie Equipment Company before
making his dream come true of owning his own machine shop in
2004. He was a member of St. Henry?s Catholic Church in Harrietts-
ville, and also a member of the Salem Township Volunteer Fire
Department. He enjoyed camping, deer hunting, and tractor pulling.
He will be missed dearly by his friends and his family. He is survived by his mother of Lowell; his wife, Jane Ann Handschu-
macher Schott, whom he married on April 21, 1979; two sons, Douglas
Charles and Curtis Edward (Sara Stephens); three brothers, Dan (Cindy),
Donnie (Linda), and Dale (Carylon); three sisters, Debbie (Dave) Biehl,
Diane (Chris) Erb, and Denise (Mike) Gerber; mother and father-in-law,
Hod and Ruth Handschumacher; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Wayne) McAlarney;
brother-in-law, Jay (Debbie) Handschumacher; many nieces and nephews;
and three great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Charles P.
and Lenora Schott and Leo and Anna Schilling; and a brother-in-law,
Daryl Handschumacher. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry?s
Catholic Church, with the Revs. Tim Huffman, Victor Cinson, and David
Huffman concelebrating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and
anytime Wednesday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral
Home, where the family will be present Wednesday from 10 a.m. until after
the rosary, which will be prayed at 8 p.m. Burial will be at Salem Township
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Henry?s Roofing Fund; Salem Township
VFD; Dave and Jane Schott Benefit Fund, c/o Peoples Bank; or to the
Strecker Cancer Center.
