ELIDA ? Jean E. Diller, 84, of Elida died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (July 17, 2007) at her home.
She was born April 11, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of Franklin and Rose Anna Hayes Schramm. On Feb. 13, 1949, she married Norman J. Diller, who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1998. She loved reading, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved baking pies for family and friends.
She was a member of the Gomer United Church of Christ, Fidelis Circle. She was a 50-year member of Trinity Chapter 16 Order of the Eastern Star and a past matron in 1995 and 2002; she was also deputy grand matron District 8 of the Grand Chapter of Ohio in 1997. During World War II, she worked at the Lima Tank Plant and then became co-owner of Diller Hardware in Elida for 35 years. She graduated from Macksbury High School and from Marietta Business College.
She is survived by her son, George (Hope) Diller of Elida; one daughter, Joyce (Tim) Larimore of Gomer; two sisters, Grace (Fred) Schneeberger of Caldwell, and June (Raymond) Schneeberger of Caldwell; one brother, Earl (Jean) Schramm of Marietta; and four grandchildren, Ashli and Kiel Diller and Amy and Dan Larimore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Clyde Schramm.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gomer United Church of Christ with the Rev. Brian Knoderer officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, Ohio, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Gomer Cemetery. Order of Eastern Star Trinity Chapter 16 services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gomer United Church of Christ.
